This past weekend we spent a couple days celebrating this journey we're on...celebrating Sam's birthday...celebrating friendship. It was really fun. The weekend began with picking the boys up from school early on Friday and spending the rest of the daylight navigating our way through Rockford to Chicago traffic. How many different ways can you answer "Are we almost there?" Conor, one of Sam's friends, made the trek with us and that made it more enjoyable for the boys too.
First stop, Living Water Church in Bolingbrook and the home of some of our very best friends. Living Water recently completed a gorgeous new facility and this was the weekend to dedicate the buidling and celebrate all that God had done to make this thing happen. It is spectacular, and the stories of lives that have come together, paths that have crossed, sacrifices made...beautiful.
The weekend was a bit like "This is Your Life." Not only a beautiful time of seeing all the people in the lives of our friends, those who we know by name only and those we have met at one time or other over the past 17 or so years. It was also a time of getting to connect with people that we have served along side over the years...people who at one time, some going back 15 years, God had crossed our paths. Much has changed for all of us, and yet we still gather having one thing in common - our God who has over the years continued to work in us to accomplish His purpose. No matter what time passes, that one thing remains the same, we are forever on the journey together!
There is truly nothing like the Kingdom, nothing like the Church when it is living according to God's design.
Here are a couple pics...
On Saturday we celebrated Sam's 8th birthday. The day was full of music, Sam and Conor proudly sporting their Packers jerseys, jamming to Eye of the Tiger and Begin the Begin by R.E.M. ... the entire restaurant singing "Happy Birthday" at Jim's command.... another great day with friends.
(In case you have watched the slideshow, there was a "girls time out" tacked onto the end of this weekend - which seemed to take on some kind of chocolate theme!)
