Near the shores of the Dead Sea, deep in the Judean Wilderness, fresh water gushes out of the desert floor creating an oasis called En Gedi. It was here that David hid from Saul and it is likely one of the places of inspiration for the king-poet, David. The water that brings forth life at En Gedi is a picture of how God meets his children's thirst in the desert.
I recently heard a preacher refer to this place called En Gedi. (I believe she is one of the teaching staff of Northview in Madison.) For many biblical writers, the oasis of En Gedi provided a picture of the refreshment and encouragement found in God. Several psalmists expressed their need for God as a thirst for water amidst the wilderness of life. (for more on En Gedi...

This week theReynoldsFam found refreshment and encouragement in God. On days that we are tempted to be discouraged or lonely... when our mission seems like a far off dream, there are friends who bring refreshment much like the water of En Gedi may have been to the weary travelers who in the middle of a dry, hot desert. Travelers glad for a splash of cool water to give them what it takes to press on.

Last week there was a visit from the Zlabeks. No pic cuz I left my camera in the car. These are great friends who have shared with us in great times of mission and vision in the Kingdom of God and in church planting. We also had a visit from Eli and his famiy - the DeWilde family! Stopping on their way home from vacation, Sam and Eli, best friends from Kindergarten had a chance to play. Spending time with this family was a real treat.Today my friend Michelle, along with Cassie and Caitlyn visited. We took the kids to the zoo, spent time laughing, talking and playing. The day went so fast. I feel like I have come across an En Gedi today and I'm now ready to travel further.

(and tomorrow, the Sikora family - from La Crosse - is coming over for a cook out!) En Gedi. God is good. I love it that He gives us not what we ask for - a faster journey through the desert, a way around it perhaps... but what we really need instead.
En Gedi.
