On Saturday we got to have lunch with Karen, Dave and Lilly Scott. Karen is a nurse that works at the surgery center with Juli, Dave is Juli's chiropractor - which means that our friendship is based much on condition of my back and neck! anyway...We were meeting just after the now famous snow board competition involving Lindsey Jacobellis. Inspired by the bold atmosphere created by the deli we were visiting, we began talking about the boldness of the athlete's move as she approached the finish line on her way to gold.
That day on the slopes, Lindsey Jacobellis took a risk that had the potential to put her on the cover of Sports Illustrated. The risk in this case did not pay off the way all watching that day had hoped. She fell. and then...only a silver. ONLY A SILVER!
While Sam, Spencer and Lily (almost 3) marveled at the many artifacts at the very entertaining Ella Deli - when you come for a visit, we'll have to take you there...
http://www.ellas-deli.com/displays.php... it's incredible! - our thoughts went to the heroism of the risk and that it was too bad that what this 20 year old, Olympic risk taker heard was "lost the gold" - instead of "won the silver". We noticed that outsiders (the media) looked on and saw a mistake made, a defeat. The truth is, Lindsey did not play it safe, she took a risk, she had some fun, she went for it and won! It may not have met the expectations of what winning looks like, but then winning does often look different than what we imagine. That day in the deli, over chicken salad sandwiches, we admired the courage, the risk and the class in which this athlete handled her "loss". We celebrated the win, our kids celebrated life. It was good.
She takes a risk. Was it crazy? maybe. But, what if had worked out the way it was meant to?

What just happened? That was not the way it finished in my dream....
