lessons learned from a "running rebel", a worm, a spider and curious george

Well today I woke up with random thoughts...why do people not want Jesus? and what can I ever do about it anyway...o.k. today i'll be at the YMCA and I'll meet more people...God please use us show the love you offer...why is that I have been a Christian for all my life and just now learning Johanian terms (I'm studying the gospel of John)...o.k. today is going to bring with it greatness, I know it...maybe...well, we'll just see...I wonder if it's very cold or just kinda cold...I'll probably feel better if I just dust our bedroom - that's something I can control...

Sam started basketball today at the YMCA - March Madness. I love watching kids play basketball. I love watching the kid who looses himself in the task of man to man defence and doesn't even care where the ball actually is. Sam was so excited to get that "jersey" - it's a red screen print t-shirt, but to Sam it's one step closer to following in Michael Jordan's footsteps to North Carolina then on to the NBA. For Sam, it doesn't get any better than this- he's a "Runnin Rebel". Oh, it's not that he has identified basketball as the single passion he will pursue, he just knows no limitations to what is possible - now or when he grows up. Today he announced that he would like to start this church out big and know everyone. He decided he would be the Kid's pastor - "since I'm a kid!" to quote him. And since he is working on being a team player he decided he will delegate some of the things, like reading the big words. I should alert you that he is making plans to recruit assistants.

All this while Spencer and the Rescue Hero team he has assembled is saving the planets from destruction! Spencer even knows how to spell I-M-A-G-i-N-A-S-H-N!

This afternoon we found ourselves in the "kid corner" at Barnes and Noble. Have you ever readDiary of a Worm? It's a great book, it made me laugh. It also has a message about uniqueness, perspective and value, it's just fun. There is alsoDiary of a Spider. Also very good.

THEN as if that was not enough...we went to seeCurious George. What a fun movie. The soundtrack is great too. As we were leaving Spencer asked if he could go down by the screen and dance to the music. I learned something from all of this simple fun...and I said "sure!" and that is what we did. (Well, Gene and I didn't actually dance, someone had to hold the coats.)
So, I end the day back in my adult world of trying to be sure I get enough sleep in between the deadlines, the papers, projects and dusting. But the Running Rebels, the Worm, the Spider and Curious George have become part of my perspective. Today, I will enjoy today and the people who I meet along the way. I will do my best to hear the voice of God and be obedient to what He calls me to. The church is His. My kids are His. I am His.
